September 3rd to 6th - Girls Long Weekend

Saturday, September 18, 2010

This has been hands down one of the best summers ever thanks in part to my very best friends. No matter where we are together it always feels like home.

1. Sash's stagette - Williams Lake
2. Family Camping Trip with the Hauk's, Kovacevic's & HP - Green Lake
3. Pheroze & Sasha's wedding - Vancouver
4. Girls Weekend - VERNON!!

Sash and Pheroze are jetting off to London soon for an entire year so she and HP drove up to Vernon for a weekend of relaxation, laughter and wine. Sash had really wanted to meet Saige before she left so her and Heather taking the time to come up and share a house with a 20 month old meant so so much.

FRIDAY - Sash & Heath arrive in the p.m. Saige is really into partner dancing lately so we had a living room dance party followed by some backyard bevies. We went for an evening stroll to Hunter's Store where we got screamers Mr.G style (a slurpee topped with soft vanilla ice cream) and took a few detours (ie. Pleasant Valley Cemetery and the swings at Harwood Elementary).

SATURDAY - We dropped Saige off at Auntie Becca's so the 3 of us could hit up some Okanagan  wineries...

Gray Monk
- our favourite courtesy of the free wine tour and virtually limitless samples of delicious wine. My personal recommendation: Siegerrebe.

- beautiful grounds, okay wine (try the Chenin Blanc) & the scene of our grape vine theft.

- gorgeous architecture, decent wine & special treatment thanks to Bachelorette Jillian Harris knowledge.

The grounds.

Heather's Rule #1: look into each other's eyes when cheers'ing.

Our secret tour with Troy who showed us his "one of a kind" tapestry.

We grabbed some brie and bread on our drive home and stopped by Kal Beach where seagulls fought over our french loaf and the jump shot made a comeback.

Our perfect day ended with a dinner at Sushi One and a 7:30 showing of "Eat, Pray, Love".

SUNDAY - Since our house is bitty and Saige recently learned how to climb out of her crib, our "guests" slept in the travel trailer... I like to call it driveway camping. After showers and a pancake breakfast we put on our sneaks, picked up sandwiches-to-go from Subway and hiked the trail to BX Falls. Hard to believe it's been over 6 years since Trev's look-out proposal! Sash and Heath had me reenact the moment, but the photo is on HP's camera.

Brushing up on our BX Trail factoids

Some things never change.

Well worth the walk.

We actually talked Heather into letting us rent "The Orphan" from one of those grocery store kiosks and after Saige went down for the night, the 3 of us piled into the trailer for movie night. We laughed, we screamed, we sang lyrics from "The Little Mermaid" at the top of our lungs... we were like 13 again only louder. My poor NEW neighbours. Oh and P.S. - lime & salt microwave popcorn is to die for.

Much to their dismay, I have yet to acquire a taste for beer,
especially their crazy beer with weird names like Dead Frog Pepper Lime Lager.

Surprise!

MONDAY - All good things must come to an end. We introduced Sash and Heath to our local Farmer's Market before bidding them adieu. You haven't had the full Okanagan experience without tasting a peach from the 'Peach Lady's Daughter'.

It was an amazing end to an amazing summer!

Thanks ladies... mwah!
