November 2nd - Big Girl Bed

Tuesday, November 2, 2010

I admit I can get a little kijiji/craigslist crazy, but living in a teeny house with minimal storage doesn't afford us the opportunity to hang onto things that have lost their usefulness. It's a shame my packrat husband doesn't share my knack for resale and freecycle - the sheds in our backyard could be featured on an episode of hoarders.

Anyways I recently put Saige's crib on kijiji.com thinking it'd take awhile to sell, but low and behold it was gone by Saturday. Thankfully we had her playpen on standby and picked up her new mattress this evening. I guess her new bed won't be ready until mid-November so until then she'll be napping on the floor. I slept on a blow up air mattress for my first year of college so I'm pretty sure our Saigelette can handle being a little lower to the ground for a week or two (especially sleeping on the twin version of mommy and daddy's über comfy mattress).

Coincidently Saige's duvet cover from Pottery Barn arrived today as well! It was still in the wash by the time bedtime rolled around so instead our little big girl got tucked in with a cover I scored from Ikea's discount corner. Twenty dollars can you believe it? I love a good bargain.

Trev and I had a sneaking suspicion that Saige would have a tough time falling asleep with all the bedroom changes and we were right. She went down at 7:30 p.m. and came padding through the kitchen a few minutes later. I channelled my inner Supernanny and after she broke free for a second time I told her - in my most authoritative voice - "no getting out of bed". Well by golly it worked. She wimpered for a bit and called out for mommy to rock her (to which I relented) and after switching out her new pillow for the old, she was fast asleep by 8:40 p.m. Not too terribly bad however I'm a little worried about what could happen later tonight - what if I wake up to a pint-size version of Trevor staring back at me from the side of our bed? Yikes.

I know I joke sometimes about Saige being sassy and stubborn and too smart for her own good, but when she reads my 2010 blog years from now, I want to be on record saying that I love absolutely everything about my little lady and wouldn't change a thing about her. She's perfect for me, pouty lips and all.
