May 8th - Halfway There & Happy Momma's Day

Monday, May 9, 2011

Brace yourself, this is going to be one long post as we celebrated 2 momentous occasions in the Knol household this week- Mom's Day and hitting the 20 week mark!

The Zakoski's had us over on Saturday for game night - they had Teagan and Tristan for a sleepover so Saige enjoyed an extended non-daycare playdate with 2 of her boyz:

Building castles in the nap room.

Followed by a pajama party in the big kid room.
* they were watching a movie in the dark so I had to take photos blind and the results were quite hilarious *

Sunday was milestone day so let's start with MOTHER'S DAY...

I took a trip down Old Blog Post Lane and saw that the jeans I was wearing in last year's Happy Mother's Day post were retired just yesterday courtesy of my growing belly. Hard to believe we were talking about Saige wanting a little brother or sister 365 days ago and now she's getting one! And it's even harder to believe that 3 years ago today we were telling our parents that they were going to be first time grandparents.

adore my handprint ornament!

My day started off with a homemade card and breakfast in bed - it always feels weird eating in bed - maybe if we had one of those portable trays I'd find toast paired with linens a tad more appealing. I do want to stop and say "thank you" to my adorable husband (who rarely - if ever - reads my blog) for making this day all about ME... I love you, you're the best and now I need to think about Father's Day. Anyways after some newspaper reading, momma calling, card making and showering, the 3 of us headed outdoors to tackle some yardwork.

Saige found herself a "Snail Friend" and outfitted him with a tupperware house complete with flowers, grass and rocks. Unfortunately he preferred a more transient lifestyle and bailed before she could feed him fishy crackers.

Becs invited us to a delicious lasagna dinner and of course I forgot my camera, but I did remember to bring DQ ice cream cake for dessert. The cousins were super sweet; Saige calls Caleb her "bestest buddy" and speaking of buddies... Caleb-bear is completely enamoured with Uncle Tre'bor - something Auntie Sara will soon have to rectify with chocolate.

Yes, it was one an incredible day. I only wish I got to see/spend time with my momma and mother-in-law. I also wish I got video of Saige sneaking a lemon slice off the counter - I heard Trev say, "okay, but you're not going to like it" and she followed up with, "hmmm it's nice and juicy"...

what a crazy Canuck

"yes, it's just a lemon in my hand"

How can I use that as a segway into my 20 WEEK UPDATE?

I'm actually only 19 weeks in these photos since I just turned 20 weeks on Sunday; some days I look more pregnant than others. P.S. - Dakota is such a camera hound.

* I stole these pregnancy-related questions (and many other ideas) from E, Myself & I *

Pregnancy Highlights:

How Far Along: 20 weeks - we're halfway there!

Size of Baby: According to Wednesday's ultrasound Baby Knol is half a pound and is roughly the size of a banana.
Maternity Clothes: I'm still holding out, however they're all unpacked and a bit out-of-date. Has anyone had luck ordering maternity jeans online?? I've gained between 7-9 lbs so far (depending on what time of day I step on the scale) and my only request is that the weight keep off my thighs and a$$.

Gender: wouldn't you like to know? Our big little gender reveal is this Friday the 13th.

Movement: Baby #2 is definitely more squirming than their big sis was. I'm feeling teeny nudges throughout the day and at night my uterus turns into a mini-disco. The movement is pretty subtle and Trev's only felt one solid kick to date.

Sleep: Like a baby. Bedtime is no later than 10:00 p.m. (unless I'm desperately trying to wrap up a blog post) and the alarm (aka Saige) is set for 7:00 a.m. Unfortunately when I wake up at night for inevitable pee breaks, I find that I'm sleeping on my *gasp* back!!

What I Miss: My collection of jeans, scalding hot baths, my normal-sized feet (and bladder), the desire to buy something for myself, the ability to bend over with no issue and taking deep breaths.

Cravings: I've moved on from craving things that are actually healthy for me (ie. oranges, strawberries, milk) and am now jonesing for 5 cent candy, slushies and ice cream - not the best diet to keep weight from distributing to my hips. It's a good thing I haven't had much time for 7-11 runs. I should also mention my strong food spice aversion... thyme and I are no longer friends (not that we were much of friends to begin with). I'm so over the taste and smell that I actually chucked our 3/4 full container in the garbage - just call it a herb hissy fit.

interesting fact learned through google: the Internation Herb Association named thyme the 'Herb of the Year' back in 1997? To quote Pretty Woman - my favourite movie of all-time - "big mistake [IHA], huge... I have to go shopping now".

Symptoms: I'm already feeling puffy! I prayed that the cankles wouldn't make a comeback for summer, but who am I kidding? I don't even want to think about how bad they're going to be considering how disgusting they were the first time round in the dead of winter! Oh and just in case you needed a little reminder...

Good Lord those ought to be illegal!

Best Moment(s) This Week: The ultrasound that brought tears to my eyes. There's something about (a) hearing the heartbeat for the very first time and then (b) seeing your baby via ultrasound for the very first time that gets me all choked up. I don't want to say too much for fear of ruining the gender surprise, but it was a special moment for Trev and I as we saw our little one move about.

Hmmm... what will it bee???

About those jeans and shorts - if they still fit in the legs and butt, there is the option of adding the band that lets you leave your pants open while it holds them up. I saw it on one of those pregnancy websites and basically you slip it over your pants. Also, if you are thinking of second hand items, the Schubert Centre has a thrift store with some nice quality items and a really decent price. If nothing else, you could just pick up something a size too big to allow the room for growth. The good thing about being big in the summer - dresses without nylons. They are comfy in a way that pants can never be. AND you can keep your feet up which reduces the swelling so your tootsies can go back to being as cute as you're used to.
PS, I can't wait to find out if it is boy so Cooper will have someone to play with!
