I'm pretty sure my blog is having an identity crisis.

Now that we've temporarily settled on a feather scheme and a new tagline, I can finally get back to blogging.

Let's kick things off with my faves du jour.

1. SONGZA - this app has revolutionized the way I listen to music. I mean come on, a free on-demand stream of expertly curated playlists tailored to my mood and/or activity? effing genius. Lately I've been kicking it old skool with their collection of '90s #1 Hits [aka the mix tape of my adolescence].

We put Gabe to bed with music so I considered purchasing a few of those rockabye baby lullaby renditions that do instrumental covers of Cold Play, Nirvana, etc. Well thanks to SONGZA, we don't have to because Children's Instrumental Bedtime Tunes seems to play them all!

2. - I recently scored some great deals from the category: 'home renovation materials' - a gorgeous 7ft slab of Brazilian granite for the master bath and 16 reclaimed wood beams for our covered deck. I'm running out of places to stash my bargains, but the prices were too good to pass up.
[ photos aren't exact ]

3. Teak & Grey - I can't get enough of this colour combo and with the above granite find, I'm fairly confident our new ensuite will be bathed in charcoal & camel.

anticipated design elements include:

teak cabinets || grey paint/tile || floating vanity || brazilian granite || white vessel sink || wall faucet

4. Gingers - ever since Gabe came along I've been loving the redheads; even the crimson haired boys. I see little carrot tops all over the place which makes me smile and think there's a comeback in the making. A friend forwarded me this list of redhead stats & facts that's circulating on Facebook - I think Trev would disagree with the "sexual fire" statement.

Red hair is a genetic mutation.

Red hair is seen on the heads of only 4 % of people. Most in the UK, Ireland and Australia.

In the US, only 2% of people have red hair.

Redheads have a specific gene called the melanocortin 1 receptor (MC1R), found on the 16th chromosome. This single gene is responsible for red hair.
This wasn't discovered until the late 1990's.

Redheads sometimes require up to 20% more anesthesia, concluding that we are much harder to sedate.

Redheads have always been thought untrustworthy.
Judas is depicted as a redhead displaying the first prejudice against red hair.

Bees are thought to sting redheads more than others.

In ancient Egypt, red hair was seen as so unlucky, red-haired girls were burned alive.

In medieval Europe, the infamous witch-hunting manual, Malleus Maleficarum, instructed that red hair and green eyes were marks of a witch, as were freckles, which redheads tend to have aplenty.

Redheads tend to bleed more, due to slightly different clotting factors, which again is a genetic factor.

Redheads bruise more easily than people with different colored hair.

Common Redhead stereotypes are: bad temper, sexual fire, untrustworthy, being smart and eccentric.

In Denmark, it is a high honor to have a redheaded child.

The redheaded gene is recessive, so red hair can show up many generations later. It takes both parents carrying the specific gene to produce a redheaded child.

Because of the rare pigment in our hair, it is often harder to dye red hair and usually takes longer.

It is said that while in Poland, if you pass three red-heads you'll win the state lottery.

If a man with dark hair has a red-headed beard they are more likely to carry at least one different copy of the red haired gene. (obviously)

There is a belief that redheads are prone to industrial deafness. This actually could be true as the melanocytes are found in the middle ear.

In the late 16th century, the fat of a redheaded man was an essential ingredient for poison.

There have been studies done to confirm whether or not redheads are more prone to become addicts than those with blond or brunette colored locks. It is thought to be so.

Red haired/blue eyed combinations are said to be one of the rarest combinations. It is usually more common to see a redhead with brown or green eyes than with blue.

I must be Danish cause I'm pretty smitten with my rare blue eyed ginger boy.

5. Singing Competitions - the girls on American Idol are killing it this season. Kree, Candice, Amber... I mean holy talent Batman and The Voice just started but already has some front runners.

I'm sorry but Lazaro has gots to go and some of Nicki's facial expressions need to be smacked off her face. That being said, I'm really digging the replacement judges; Shakira is adorable and don't you love that Mariah is still rocking the butterflies after all these years?

Believe it or not I used to rock out to 'Butterfly' back in my Fiero driving days (1999). Me and Mariah go back like babies and pacifiers.

Love the header. It's simple and it works. I didn't know anything about redheads. Very interesting. Gabe sure is a cutie pie of a redhead. I think the color combo you're going for looks great for your renos. Ok, Kijiji seems to be a goldmine for so many people. I need to get searching!

I am a fellow Songza addict! Although my hair isn't red, so maybe I'm not actually "addicted". ;)

When I was 13, I stole the family camcorder & filmed a music video to a Mariah Carey jam wearing a silver sparkly halter top.

My grand entrance in the video?

Coming out of my closet doors.

Talk about horrifying when we sat down to watch home movies the other weekend & we ended up watching Anne CIRCA 1998.

Love the feather... Light and dark, heavy and many connotations and theme options!

And the confessions, as always, are wonderful.

Good thing we have come along way since ancient Egypt. The world would be a lot less funny if you were burned alive for your lovely locks ;)
