This wild child had a party over the weekend to celebrate her FIVEness and there's something to be said about paying someone else to organize it (this coming from a wedding planner). Our local gymnastics club offers a party package that - aside from snacks - takes care of everything (activities, plates, napkins, tablecloths, balloons)... I seriously couldn't sign on the dotted line fast enough.
Don't get me wrong, I LOVE planning parties (obviously), but with Christmas, the bridal show, the Durali contract, our never-ending reno and 7 weddings on the books plus engagement season, I'm a bit coordinated out. That being said, it's not a Knol party without a "theme" so here's what we came up with SUPER last minute... a pre-Olympic bash!
Congratulations gymnast you're going to the Olympics!
Time to suit up in shorts + stripes and join your
for a pre-Sochi practice + celebration
Sunday, January 25th
North Valley Gymnastics Club
All made possible by 16 homemade cupcakes (sprinkled by Saige), 13 little friends, 2 sheets of maple leaf temporary tattoos and Olympic torch goodie bags made from Dollar Tree finds and skittles (can you believe Dollarama didn't have a single Canada flag?! how unpatriotic of them).
Aside from watching a baker's dozen of cutie kids tip-toe across balance beams, my favourite part of the day was the NO PRESENT OPENING! Say whaa?! Yup, we stole the idea from another birthday party and asked guests to bring a toonie ($2 coin) instead of a gift which Saige could later spend on the toy of her choice. BEST.IDEA.EVER. We went from floor routines to cupcakes and skipped the whole recycling bag of wrapping paper altogether. I applaud whoever came up with this brilliant idea!
I gotta admit Gabe's geek party was pretty fun, but Saige's pre-Sochi celebration was probably the easiest birthday we've hosted yet. Maybe next year the house will actually be done and we can finally have a party at home.
Okay I lied... my favourite part of the day was not having to clean up.
(sorry for the awful iPhone photos, the lighting was not the greatest in there).
Happy Hump Day!
